The conditions for this game could not have been worse. A complete contrast from last week, and it is a credit to both sides and coaches that the game was played at all.
Delayed for 45 minutes due to massive traffic congestion on the M4, eventually the two sides set about playing some really adventurous rugby considering the conditions.
The first 15 minutes saw the sides taking measure of each other and Bryncoch created a classic move in the threequarters when their skipper, fly half Morgan-Williams neatly switched an inside ball to his blind side winger Radford and in the heavy conditions it was easy for him to ‘wrong-foot’ the Sports defence and he scored under the posts for a try that full back Harris converted. The Sports reacted well to this and put on a sustained attack that needed good defence from the home side.

The rain then got even worse and it was obvious that whoever read the conditions best would win this game. When the Sports tried a long miss pass in the threes, it was not the answer and when it did not go to hand, Bryncoch snapped up what was only a half chance and finished well again with left winger Radford rounding the defence and scoring under the posts for Harris to extend their lead to 14-0. Then Sports took the game to the home side with great gusto through strong runs by Lewis Obbard and skipper Lloyd Wilson.

With the ball now like the proverbial ‘bar of soap’ in was remarkable that Sports scrum half James Donovan was able to scoop as much ball away to his threes as he did. There were not too many penalties given by the Sports as they kept their discipline well. But just on half time they conceded a penalty that Harris converted giving Bryncoch the lead of 17-0.
The rain eased for the second half and allowed a more controlled game from both sides. The Sports had a splendid 10 minutes on the Bryncoch 5 metre line and looked certain to score but Bryncoch held well and again great work by Lloyd Wilson for the visitors went unrewarded.

There were no points scored in the second half and the Sports were rather unlucky not to get a lot closer to the Bryncoch 17 point first half lead.

Skipper Lloyd Wilson limped off before the end having had an outstanding game both as number 8 and as captain. He gave all and was the spectators man of the match
