Bridgend Sports Under 11’s Thrive on Tour to West Wales.

Bridgend Sports Under Elevens returned to Pembrokeshire with the club’s mini and junior section for their end of season tour. The club last visited the area in 2014 when they played Narberth and Tenby rugby clubs. On their last visit, the Under Eleven’s side returned home undefeated and perhaps this memory provided a positive influence on the young players as they took the fields on a glorious Saturday at the home of the Otters,  “Narberth.”

The rugby certainly sparkled in the bright sunshine as temperatures hit a high for the year. The Sports won the toss and kicked off, Narberth were soon put under pressure, as the Sports chased down the kick to put their hosts under early pressure, force the error and then take advantage from the scrum.

The Sports were a delight to watch as everything clicked as backs and forwards did the basics well to put players into space to provide direction first and then width to their game. Within the first few minutes they had scored three tries.

Confidence grew and the Sports did not look back as they kept Narberth contained in their own half. Further tries followed for the away team for them to turn out comfortable victors. Bailey Llewellyn Hopkins,  Calum Lewis, Cian John, Dylan Morgan, Harri Williams, Iestyn John, Joel Rogers, Tom Chick, Theo Clarke and Tyler Burton all scored as the team turned in a performance that they should be extremely proud of. They certainly earned their afternoon at the beach as all mini and junior teams combined to enjoy the afternoon sun on the spectacular South Beach at Tenby.

On Sunday, in true rugby spirit, the Sports Under Tens and Elevens teams combined to play a game against a combined Tenby Under Tens and Elevens.   In another game of top quality, it was pleasing to see all players relish the opportunity to play in a mixed age group game. Tenby provided some stiff opposition and the Sports had to be at their best again to counter a spirted home team.  They overcame the challenge but were made to work hard.

Sports players Cian John, Dylan Harris, Dylan Morgan, Griff Reynolds, Harri Williams, Iestyn John, Jack Sperduty, Meg Lewis and Tom chick all scored for the Sports as Tenby replied with four tries of their own to ensure the Sports had to work for the win.

Rugby was the week end champion however, as all teams played with a smile on their face and joined together following the game for some great pictures for the rugby album.
