Bridgend Sports Under Elevens v Ystrad Rhondda

Perfect spring weather graced the Sports final home game of what has been a season disrupted by the wet weather.  With the warm sun on their backs, the Sports sparkled against a proud and spirited Ystrad Rhondda team.

The Sports kicked off, Ystrad Rhondda were keen to move the ball but came unstuck at the first ruck as the home team players followed up the kick with a strong defensive line. With possession secured, the Sports looked to move the ball through the hands to players in space. Within minutes of the start the Sports had placed points on the board, as they scored two early tries, the first through wing Tom chick the second from Outside Half Cian John.

Ystrad Rhondda looked to fight back but could not retain possession, the final pass just would not stick for them and with the Sports players finding some form as the season draws to a close, it was always going to be difficult for the away team.

In a complete contrast from the previous week’s games at the Cowbridge Festival, the Sports showed up and put in a great effort, Tom Coles, Bailey Llewellyn Hopkins, Meg Lewis, Dylan Morgan, Callum Lewis, Cadan Hayes, Mackenzie Dent, Iestyn John, Tyron Davies  and Tyler Burton all crossed the line to score for the Sports to register a win with dignity, in their final home game of the season.

Ystrad Rhondda were spirited and mounted a number of attacks but unfortunately could not find their way across the try line. Both teams showed great respect for each other and left the field with smiles on their faces in a fitting testament to the importance of developing all players to sustain the future of the community game.

Bridgend Sports now look forward to their spring tour to West Wales next week, when they will  play Narberth and Tenby.  They will finish their season at the Pencoed tournament on 23rd April before their presentation day on 30th.

The club will then have a short break before returning to training in early summer. With the game moving from 12 a side to 15 a side next season, the Sports are keen to add to their squad. New players are always welcome to join, please visit the Bridgend Sports Facebook page for contact details
