Following a late cancellation, by Fairwater, of the Sports Under Nine’s first home game on Sunday, the team travelled to Beddau for a set of round robin games against Beddau and Pencoed. Sports were grateful to both sides for helping out at such short notice. Pencoed defeated Beddau by 10 points to 8 in an exciting first game and following a short break, the Sports Under nines took to the field against Pencoed. Sports were quickly into their stride taking the game to Pencoed from the start, tries quickly followed for MacKenzie Dent, Ruben Thomas (2) Thomas Chick, Dylan Morgan and Callum Lewis . Excellent tackling from Thomas Chick and  Dylan Morgan kept Pencoed at bay and quick work at the breakdown from an alert Sports team constantly turned defence into attack. Pencoed were determined to fight back and responded with two tries to make the final score 6-2 .
The Sports then faced a rejuvenated Beddau team, smarting from their earlier defeat to Pencoed. The Sports youngsters again started well scoring two tries with strong direct running from MacKenzie Dent following good periods of retained possession and passing. Beddau responded with two tries, one from a break, from deep within their own half and helped by some slipped tackles from the Sports. A try a piece followed to make the scores level at half time 3 – 3. Both sides had plenty of opportunities to score in the second half but it was Beddau who scored the first two tries, after the Sports lost possession with players too often crossing the touch lines instead of cutting inside or using support. Relentless tackling from Rhys Wilson , Dylan Morgan and Thomas Chick kept the Sports in the game and following some good handling and movement up field, Dylan Morgan scored to make the score 5-4. The Sports continued to secure possession but could not get that final score to level an exciting game.
These were two excellent games played in a positive spirit. Credit must go to all sides for an enjoyable set of games.

With the previous week’s 9-5 away win at Llantwit Major the Sports Under 9’s have made an impressive start to the season and continue to develop an enjoyable brand of rugby which players and coaches can be proud of.
Next week the Sports host Kenfig Hill Under 9’s at home. Training is at 6 every Wednesday, down at the Bandstand Field all new players are welcome to come and join in the fun.
