BRIDGEND SPORTS UNDER 9’s, CONTINUE TO DEVELOP AND GROW

Bridgend Sports Under Nines squad has experienced a couple of frustrating weeks due to an enforced break caused by the weather.  Following a close win over Tondu on 14th February the squad has experienced cancelled fixtures at Aberycnon , Cambrian and a postponement of a tournament at St Peter’s in Cardiff.

The squad remains in good spirits and whilst not ideal, the break has provided an opportunity to reflect on an exciting season.  Every squad member has continued to develop and progress during the transition from tagging to tackling. This is thanks to the continued hard work of coaches Justin Hostettler Davies, Craig Balmer and Matthew Preddy. Training sessions are always stimulating and provide a challenge for the young players to learn in an environment that is enjoyable, supportive and inclusive.

The results provide a testimony to the hard work from both players and coaches. It is not about results however, it is about how young players are encouraged into the game, learn and develop in a team environment.    To date, the squad has played a total of 36 teams in a mixture of scheduled fixtures, tournaments and round robins, with 22 wins, 5 draws and 8 losses.  A total of 199 tries have been scored with players contributing to a total tackle count of 1,277, an average tackle count of 36 tackles per game. Top tacklers are Dylan Morgan, Tryon Davies and Callum Lewis who are closely followed by Thomas Chick. Top try scores are Joel Rogers, Mackenzie Dent, Dylan Morgan, Tyron Davies, Thomas Chick, Callum Lewis, Cian John and Dewi Worrall.  Ieuan Pilliner, Iestyn John, Callum Lewis, Thomas Chick and Tyron Davies top the appearance stats. Highlights have been some notable victories in local derbies. All has been made possible by a contribution from every squad member and an ethos of development for all.

Attention is now turning to the final quarter of the season when the squad will continue to build on their success and development to date, before heading off on the club tour to Burnham on Sea. New players are always welcome to come and join us, during the winter months training is every Wednesday at MaesyrHaul School, Broadlands from 6 and until 7 p.m. Follow us on Twitter @SportsMiniRugby for updates each week.
