On Sunday 12th October Sports U11's welcomed Maesteg Celtic to the Bandstand. Celtic are a good physical side and Sports were looking to build on last week's improved performance to meet the challenge.
The Sports started trying to play their normal expansive game, but were let down by some poor handling and some risky off loading, which handed possession to Celtic too often and allowed them to keep Sports under pressure, eventually crossing for a couple of converted tries. Sports defended well, but were still standing off at the tackle too often, which led to a number of turn-overs, again gifting Celtic the ball, which they used well to maintain the pressure and score more tries. Sports did put some really good passages of play together, however, and after a period of pressure on the Celtic line Tom was able to force his way over the line for a try, which was converted by Evan. The Sports kept trying hard, but as they started to tire Celtic were allowed to run in a couple more tries towards the end to give a final score...Sports 7 - 35 Celtic. The coaches were pleased with the commitment of the boys and the efforts put in, especially in defence. Key areas to continue work on are the tackle area and committing to rucks a bit quicker and also coming up as a line in defence to put the opposition under more pressure. MVP this weeks goes to Ethan Bevan for his committed straight running and his tackling. Well Done!!
