BRIDGEND SPORTS UNDER 9’S    6  V   CAMBRIAN UNDER 9’S 0

BRIDGEND SPORTS UNDER 9’S    V   BEDDAU UNDER 9’S  0

Bridgend Sports under 9's faced another hectic but exciting week with a further set of round robin games. This week it was a visit from two Rhondda teams Cambrian and Beddau.   Having narrowly lost to Beddau at the beginning of the season the Sports needed to produce their best performance of the season and they did not disappoint in both games.

In the first game against Cambrian, the home side youngsters set the standard with a fine team performance, epitomized by a massive seventy six tackles across two halves. From the kick off, Sports showed a sense of purpose both in attack and defence.

They scored an early try in the game, through Joel Rogers, after good running and inter-passing from Dylan Morgan, Tyron Davies and Mackenzie Dent.  The Sports then exerted relentless defensive pressure on Cambrian and the away side were constantly driven back to their own line. Prominent in defence were  Ben King, Cian John, Dylan Morgan, Jodi Keane, Mackenzie Dent , Mason Balmer, Tom Chick and the dynamo Tyron Davies.

The pressure soon told and the loose ball was snapped up, fed to  Callum Lewis and onto Joel Rogers for him to score his second try. The third try came from an individual effort from Ieuan Pilliner following another turnover, he collected the ball five metres inside his own half, beat two players and then was tackled by three defenders five metres out, but he powered his way over to make the half time score 3-0

In the second half, Cambrian tried to retain possession but were constantly pinned back on their own line. Whenever they tried to break out they were met with solid tackles from Thomas Coles, Tyron Davies, Joel Rogers and Cian John  for the Sports . Joel Rogers scored his third try of the game sneaking over from a scrum on the Cambrian line.   Callum Lewis was next to score after a break from Rhys Wilson who made good ground before giving the try scoring pass. The final try of the game  was scored when Dylan Morgan set off on a sweeping run beating several defenders and then linked with Callum Lewis for him to score his second and secure a six nil win for his team.

In their second game of the morning the Sports faced Beddau. Supporters may have been apprehensive but the young players were not as they soon registered  the first score of the game. It was made by  Alex Stimpson who set off on a run, he took two players with him before passing to Ben King who made good ground and then  passed the ball onto Mackenzie Dent to score the try to set the Sports off to a perfect start.

Beddau tried to run back at the Sports from the restart but they knocked the ball forward. From the  scrum, Tyron Davies took possession and claimed a very well deserved try by powering humself over the line. Further , fearless tackling from the home side saw them reclaim possession after another Beddau  restart and  Joel Rogers was again in the thick of things to claim the next try. The fourth try for the Sports was the result of good running from Jodi Keane,  Rhys Wilson, Dylan Morgan and finally Iestyn John who fended off two tackles before crossing the line to score. The sports were now showing confidence in both defence and attack. They were able to secure turnover ball as a result of the outstanding team effort in defence. Solid running from Rhys Wilson and Thomas Coles supplied good ball for the final score of the first half by Joel Rogers. The Sports were five nil up going into the second half.

Their pride hurt by a home team on fine form Beddau showed their quality by restricting the Sports to one further try from Joel Rogers. Whenever Beddau tried to mount attacks, they were constantly thwarted by some excellent cover tackles with Alex Stimpson claiming the tackle of the game to prevent a certain score.   The final score of the game went to Joel Rogers of the home team as they ran out six nil victors to round off an excellent morning.

All Sports squad members had played their part and showed the whole squad is developing rapidly and this was a well-earned reward for their enthusiasm, commitment, hard work and collective spirit.

Beddau and Cambrian finished off the morning with a final game. Beddau proved too strong for Cambrian as they ran out 7 – 2 winners.

Bridgend Sports Under 9’s travel to Porthcawl for next week’s fixture.
