Under 9's V Caerleon

BRIDGEND SPORTS UNDER 9’S 10  CAERLEON UNDER 9’S 5

Bridgend Sports Under Nine’s welcomed Caerleon to Newbridge Fields for this remembrance day fixture. Both sets of young players observed a minute’s silence, impeccably,  at 11 a.m To honour those who had paid the ultimate sacrifice,

With the game underway, both teams got off to a lively start, cancelling each other out by pressurising the team in possession into errors. Caerleon  broke the deadlock with the first try. It did not take long before the Blue and Whites hit back, excellent support play and inter passing, with Tyron Davies, Mackenzie Dent, Cian John  and Callum Lewis all involved,  saw  the ball worked back to Cian John who showed his pace to race down the wing to level the scores.  From the restart Sports secured turnover ball and ran at Caerleon with several players passing and supporting play for the ball to be worked wide again. This time it was Jodi Keane who outsprinted the defence out wide to score.  Caerleon hit back again, with a try,  that followed a period of play where they managed to retain possession and switch play across field with their right wing constantly in the thick of things.

Sports changed a few players and Caerleon took advantage of the short disruption, to take a 3 -2 lead. The lead did not last long as the Sports secured a scrum deep in the Caerleon half. From the scrum, Iestyn John supplied ball to Joel Rogers who out sprinted the defence to score. Both sides exchanged a further try each, with the home supporters thrilled for Morgan Edwards who scored his first try for the club after he set off an a wide run. The first period ended all square at 4 -4.  For the Sports, Iestyn John, Tyron Davies and Dewi Worrall were at the fore in defence.

In the second period, the Sports out played the away team in attack and although the Sports players  made a number of  tackles from Alex Stimpson, Callum Lewis , Iestyn John ,  Tom Chick and Tyron Davies , some loose tackling  allowed Caerleon to remain in the game for a period . The home team persevered and their efforts paid off  as they  scored four unanswered tries, the first from Tyron Davies following a sustained attack with Callum Lewis, Alex Stimpson, Tom Chick, Dewi Worrall and Rhys Wilson all involved. Mackenzie Dent scored the second with a typical burst through the defence.   The final two tries of the half were scored by Joel Rogers who showed the defence a clean pair of heels on both occasions. The scores  enabled the home team to take an 8 -4 lead into the final session.

The final period was  a much closer affair, Caerleon took the lead after the Sports were penalised for a technical infringement.   The home side hit back with good running and handling, they scored their first try as Rhys Wilson and Tyron Davies combined, Tryon Davies then sent the defence the wrong way with a switch of direction to score.  Cian Jon was denied the next try after what looked like another try scoring run near the touch line. Caerleon restarted but were prevented from making any ground by Tom Chick whose tackle drove them into touch.

Mackenzie Dent claimed the final score of the game after a Ben King burst up field, he fed  Jodie Keane and Cian John who were both held up short of the line , the ball found its way back to Mackenzie  Dent for him to race over the line.
