BRIDGEND SPORTS UNDER 9’s 8  CROESYCEILIOG UNDER 9’s 0

Bridgend Sports Under 9’s welcomed Porthcawl and Croesyceiliog to Newbridge Fields on Sunday morning.   The young seagulls were first to face an on form Sports Under 9’s side.  The early exchanges  were dominated  by the Sports  due to some excellent tackling from Tyron Davies and Callum Lewis with  Dylan Morgan and Dewi Worrall all making  important contributions. Their collective effort pressurised Porthcawl into spilling ball which was then capitalised on. The objective of the game is to score tries and Sports’ Joel Rogers was as eager as ever to demonstrate his pace and guile as he scored two tries for the his side to take a 2 – 0 lead, before Porthcawl struck back with  try by Max Williams. Max Williams scored when he exploited some space outside to race down the wing to score. The Sports restarted and retained the ball for long periods, with some driving play and  close passing, before finally setting Morgan Edwards in space out wide, he showed his pace to score for the home team to take a 3 -1 lead at half time.

Porthcawl scored straight from the start in the second half. They were initially held up by tackles from Cian John and Callum Lewis but the young seagulls eventually found a gap in mid field to score.  The Sports hit back as Tyron Davies seized the ball 30 metres out and charged up the mid field before being held up. From the restart the ball was worked to Cian John who raced in to score  for the home team to lead 4-2 overall . Porthcawl scored next, to make the score 4 -3 following a switch in midfield and a run through the middle.

The Sports responded with a try from Tyron Davies who took a pass from Joel Rogers that put him into space for the Sports to take a 5-3 lead.  It was Porthcawl who now attacked, scoring a try after the home side were penalised for a high tackle. With the Sports now only a point in front, they could not afford to lose ball. They attacked from the restart, raced up field following an initial charge from Ieuan Pilliner and then Dylan Morgan, he off  loaded well to Iestyn John who passed to the wing,  only for the final pass to go to ground. Porthcawl now with possession, used it well to score and level the game at 5 -5.  The Sports tried to hit back following the final restart of the game, good work from  Dylan Morgan, Alex Stimpson, Callum Lewis and Cian John  saw the ball worked wide to Tyron Davies only for yet another  final pass to go astray and the game to end 5 – 5. Porthcawl’s five tries were scored by Max Williams (3), Dylan Bell and  Rhys Hibbet.

Bridgend Sports played Croesyceilog next , the home team dominated  the game , setting down their stall from the off as Joel Rogers again, scored early. They never looked back as they put their handling game together with the ball often worked into space on many occasions. Croesyceiliog were impressive when they had the ball but could not penetrate the home defence due to some impressive tackling from Callum Lewis, Dylan Morgan, Cian John, Dewi Worrall and Joel Rogers ably assisted by Ieuan Pilliner.   The Sports scored three further tries through Dewi Worrall, Morgan Edwards and a further from Joel Rogers.   Four further tries were added from Cian John, Dewi Worrall ,Ieuan Pilliner and Tyron Davies in the second half  for the Sports.  Croesyceiliog tried hard but were unable to register a score. Bridgend Sports ran out  convincing winners 8 - 0.

The final game of the morning saw CoresyCeiliog and Porthcawl compete in an entertaining game with the Seaweeds securing a 3-1 win.
